HILO, Hawaii — Hawaii Island police went to Hilo High School’s campus on Wednesday at 8:46 a.m. after school officials notified police that an online threat had been made by an unknown person claiming that an individual was bringing a gun to school, according to a news release.

The threat proved to be false. 

School officials received a call from a juvenile on the mainland who said they were playing an online game with an unidentified gamer who said they were bringing a gun to Hilo High School. 

Patrol officers searched the school and found no unauthorized persons or weapons on campus. Faculty also conducted checks of the school and determined no lock down was necessary. 

Police started a terroristic threatening case and requested that anyone with information call the police department’s non-emergency line at 808-935-3311.
