HONOLULU — The Kapolei Convenience Center opened to the residents of Oahu’s west side on Friday, announced the City and County of Honolulu.

Spearheaded by the Department of Environmental Services, the facility is the seventh full-service convenience center strategically located to provide additional capacity for west side residents and expanding developments on the Ewa Plain. The facility provides a convenient and efficient option for the disposal of municipal solid waste, green waste, metal, propane tanks, bulky items and other recyclables, according to a news release.

“The Kapolei Convenience Center represents a significant milestone in our administration’s commitment to improving waste management for all of our residents,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi in the release. “This facility not only offers a convenient solution but also strengthens our dedication to a cleaner, greener Honolulu.”

“The Kapolei Convenience Center is a testament to our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship,” stated Department of Environmental Services Director Roger Babcock.

“Like our convenience centers in Laie, Waimanalo, Waianae, Waipahu, Ewa Beach and Wahiawa, this facility is designed to offer residents a convenient option for waste disposal and prevent the environmental impact of illegal dumping on our beautiful island,” said Babcock.

Residents can check the ENV website to view the streaming camera to check the lines, the same as Waipahu, Wahiawa, Ewa and Waianae.

The 355,624-square-foot facility is located at 91-184 Kaomi Loop and offers various services, including up to eight 40-cubic yard containers to provide residents an efficient waste disposal solution. The bins can accommodate a wide range of waste materials, as well as household inert waste items. Visit the ENV website for a list of acceptable items.

Construction began Oct. 12, 2021, managed by Bowers + Kubota with Close Construction, Inc., which served as the general contractor. HDR Engineering created the innovative design with an eye toward prioritizing efficacy. The final project cost was nearly $2.45 million.

The Kapolei Convenience Center is the 10th municipal waste disposal facility on Oahu and the first of its kind since the Wahiawa Convenience Center was added in 1992.
