HONOLULU — The University of Hawaii at Manoa administration invites the public to “Discover UH Manoa,” a free campus-wide open house scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 21.
The event will showcase academic programs, research, services and opportunities available to students at the UH flagship campus with campus tours available too.
Stop by throughout the day to engage with students, faculty and staff representing over 198 academic programs and services, plus check out over 250 activities such as hands-on workshops, demos, food, entertainment and more. Also on tap:
- Walk through a 45-foot inflatable whale and explore its anatomy in 3D
- Demonstrations and workshops with Hawaiʻinuiākea, the School of Hawaiian Knowledge
- School of Life Sciences presentations showing how blind fish adapt to extreme environments or the discovery of new microbes throughout Hawaii
- Spend time at the Animal Sciences Dog Petting Zoo
- Watch experimental animation with live musicians from the School of Cinematic Arts
- Bollywood and Indian dance or Kabuki stage combat performances from the theatre and dance department
- Enjoy a special Pops concert with the UH Symphony Orchestra
- Meet with UH athletes and coaches from at least eight different teams for interactive games, prize drawings, autographs and photo ops
“We look forward to connecting face-to-face with everyone from prospective haumana (students), their ohana, alumni and the community,” said UH Manoa Provost Michael Bruno in a news release. “We welcome everyone to join us in experiencing first-hand why UH Manoa, right here in our backyard, is one of the best universities in the world, and is a globally recognized center of learning and research.”
Recently re-accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, UH Manoa is “a top public research university” that has consistently ranked among the top 2% of four-year colleges and universities across the nation, according to the release.
Its programs in the departments of oceanography, international business, Pacific Islands and Asian area studies, earth science, marine biology, library, information science and others are ranked among the nation’s best.
