HONOLUU — The University of Hawaii at Manoa Wind Ensemble will perform "Lahainaluna," the school anthem of Lahainaluna High School, at a fall concert on Oct. 8, according to a news release.

The UH Wind Ensemble’s 45 members wanted to honor the victims and survivors of the Aug. 8 Lahaina fires. At a rehearsal in September, the band performed "Lahainaluna," a song written in 1898 by Albert Kaleikini, who was a student at Lahainaluna High School. The song is the only school anthem in the U.S. written in Hawaiian.

“We have several Maui students in the group, and wanted to express our support through our music,” said Director of Bands Jeffrey Boeckman. “Lahainaluna’s lovely and powerful alma mater serves as a testament to the strength and spirit of this remarkable community.”

Now, the UH Wind Ensemble is ready to perform the song at the fall concert, which will take place on Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. at the Michael D. Nakasone Performing Arts Center in Pearl City. Ticket prices range from $5 to $15.
