HONOLULU — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The City and County of Honolulu just announced it is hosting its 36th Annual Holiday Wreath Contest and invited Oahu residents to submit holiday wreaths.
The contest theme for 2023 is “We Are Hawaii.”
The wreath contest is part of the Honolulu City Lights celebration. Wreaths will be on display in the Lane Gallery at Honolulu Hale from Dec. 2 to 29, 2023.
Participants can enter one of three divisions:
- Adult - open to individuals or a group with participants 18 years and older
- Youth - open to ages 17 and under
- Theme Category - open to wreaths depicting the 2023 theme: “We Are Hawaii”
Entries will be judged on workmanship, creativity and use of materials. Wreaths in the “theme category” will be judged based on the best representation of the contest theme.
Winners in each division receive a ribbon and money. All three divisions will have a first place prize of $150, second place $100 and third place $75. The wreath judged overall Best in Show will earn the creator the Mayor’s Holly Award of $200. Six Judges’ Choice Awards will also be awarded with a prize of $25. Entrants are eligible for only one award.
Contest rules and entry form (scroll to the last page) are available online. Entries must be turned in from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Nov. 27 at the Lane Gallery in Honolulu Hale. A contest entry form must be submitted with each wreath. Early and late entries will not be accepted. Winners will be notified by Dec. 1.
