HONOLULU — A partnership between Honolulu Zoo Society and Aloha Beer Co. has resulted in a limited-edition beer — Trunks Up, an Indian Elephant Pale Ale. The special brew will launch at “Brews for the Zoo," a fundraising event to be held at Aloha Beer Co. in Kakaako, from 5-10 p.m. on Aug. 31.

“We want to mahalo Aloha Beer Co. for their support of the Honolulu Zoo’s beloved Asian elephants, Mari and Vaigai, and our conservation efforts,” said Executive Director of the Honolulu Zoo Society Mary Benson in a news release.

"This event is a wonderful opportunity for the community to have ‘tons of fun’ and learn about Asian elephants while contributing to the well-being and protection of these magnificent creatures,” said Benson.

One dollar from each sale over a pint will benefit the Honolulu Zoo Society and Aloha Aina Conservation Fund that supports elephant conservation.

In addition, proceeds from the sale of limited-edition six-packs of Trunks Up: Indian Elephant Pale Ale and exclusive Aloha Beer x Brews for the Zoo t-shirts will support Mari, Vaigai and the Asian Elephant SAFE (Saving Animals from Extinction) conservation initiatives through the Aloha Aina Conservation Fund.

“Aloha Beer is honored to partner with the Honolulu Zoo Society to support their Asian elephants and conservation efforts. What better way to bring the local community together than over a round of beers for a great cause,” said Candice Ishikawa, chief marketing officer of Aloha Beer.

“We hope to work with our friends at the Honolulu Zoo Society and the Aloha 'Aina Conservation Fund to make this a quarterly event. Please stop by to support Mari, Vaigai, and all the Asian elephants who need our help,” added Ishikawa.
