KAHULUI, Hawaii — An Aug. 3 inspection of Port Town Texaco by Hawaii Department of Health's Maui Food Safety Branch inspectors responding to a complaint resulted in the business receiving a red “closed” placard and its immediate shutdown, according to a news release.
Lahaina Petroleum LLC operates the gas station located at 109 W. Kaahumanu Ave. in Kahului.
Inspectors found an active rodent infestation, confirming at least three live rodents and significant rodent droppings, and “adulterated food showing evidence of an active rodent infestation,” according to the release.
Inspectors ordered the halt of all food operations, requiring the following actions:
- Contact a professional pest control company for rodent treatment/monitoring plan to fully eradicate the rodent infestation.
- Remove clutter in the kitchen and storage areas to eliminate areas where rodents gather.
- Place all food and drink items in closed bins.
- Clean all areas with rodent droppings.
The Food Safety Branch will conduct a follow-up inspection on Monday, Aug. 7.
