LAHAINA, Hawaii — Betty’s Beach Cafe in Lahaina is reopening after resolving sanitation violations, according to a Hawaii Department of Health news release.
DOH’s Maui Food Safety Branch issued a red “closed” placard to the restaurant on July 27, citing a cockroach infestation. Inspectors saw an active cockroach infestation along with several active harborage areas. Juvenile and adult cockroach activity were seen within refrigeration units and on various food contact surfaces. The restaurant is owned and operated by J. Group Corp.
According to DOH, the restaurant was issued a green “pass” placard during a follow-up inspection on July 31. Inspectors said the restaurant had eradicated the pest infestation with three professional pest control treatments. All cockroach harborage areas were also cleaned.
DOH is requiring Betty’s Beach Cafe to hire a professional pest company to conduct pest control treatments for a month, submit daily cleaning procedures, and continue sealing small openings. Another inspection will take place at an unknown date in the future to ensure the restaurant continues with pest control.
