The Hawaii Department of Transportation said in a news release it is seeking comments from the public on potential sites for electric vehicle charging stations.
HDOT released an online survey seeking comments on future sites for EV chargers that meet National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure requirements.
The survey will be open for comments until Aug. 17.
HDOT will also use the responses to determine the fee structure (i.e. flat rate or Time of Use charging).
The first two sites for electrical vehicle chargers will be on Oahu at Aloha Tower Drive fronting Pier 7 and on Maui at the Kahului Park & Ride on Kuihelani Highway near Puunene Avenue.
The charging station locations were determined by NEVI funding, which was part of President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The goal of the $5 billion NEVI program is to place 500,000 EV chargers across the U.S.

HDOT plans to have the rest of the 10 EV charging sites installed across Hawaii by the end of 2024.
