HONOLULU — Two young boys from Hawaii are vying to be crowned as mullet champ in the national mullet contest.

Jeter Aoki, a 5-year-old from Waipahu, competes in the 5 through 8 age division. He is known as “the Jeetz.” He cut his own hair and was inspired by the professional athletes he sees on tv, according to his profile on Mullet Champ.

Kaneohe boy Ezekiel Arita, 3, is competing in the ages 1 through 4 division. He has been growing his mini mullet since birth and is known as “Mr. Aloha Mullet.” For his competition photos, he went to Pigtails and Crewcuts to get his mullet cut and styled.

“He normally doesn’t use product, as he prefers the more relaxed look than the mohawk/mullet,” Ezekiel’s father, Daniel Arita, told Spectrum News Hawaii.

Winners are determined by a combination of votes from the public, donations made on behalf of contestants to Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors, and a panel of judges who critique each mullet based on length, style, uniqueness, and showmanship.
