HONOLULU — Beginning Monday, July 10, the Wahiawa Satellite City Hall will accept U.S. passport applications on an appointment-only basis.

There will now be three Oahu satellite city halls that can help the international travel needs of residents.

“Expanding the city’s U.S. passport service to Wahiawa reflects our ongoing commitment to making a meaningful contribution to easing processing delays for residents with plans to travel abroad,” said Kim Hashiro, director of the city’s Department of Customer Services.

The expanded service comes at a time of increased demand for passports. The U.S. State Department acknowledged it is seeing a record number of passport applications, as many Americans put off international travel because of the pandemic.

Passport delays are plaguing the nation and the State Department suggests that people apply for their passport six months in advance.

Processing times are between 10 and 13 weeks.

The Wahiawa location is the third satellite city hall within the City and County of Honolulu to join the U.S. Department of State's Passport Acceptance Program in the last 11 months.

The other two locations are the Ala Moana Satellite City Hall and the Kapolei Satellite City Hall.

There will be at least 21 passport application appointments available daily. The Wahiawa Satellite City Hall is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The service is open only to first-time passport applications and in addition to the passport application fee, there will be a $35 processing fee, paid via check or money order. Both original documents and photocopies of proof of citizenship and identification are required. Satellite city halls do not provide passport photos.

Residents may book an appointment to apply for a new passport at Wahiawa Satellite City Hall at alohaq.org.
