HONOLULU — The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation announced in a Friday news release the upcoming closures of Kamokila Community Park in Honokai Hale, Mauna Lahilahi Beach Park in Waianae and Puuloa Beach Park in Ewa.

What You Need To Know

  • Kamokila Community Park will close from June 26 to June 30

  • Mauna Lahilahi Beach Park will close for three months starting July 1

  • Puuloa Beach Park will close for the Independence Day weekend, July 3 to July 5

Kamokila Community Park will close starting from Monday, June 26, to June 30 for the repaving of the parking lot. The park is expected to reopen on July 1, barring any weather and schedule disruptions.

A three-month closure of Mauna Lahilahi Beach Park is scheduled to begin on July 1. A number of rehabilitation projects are scheduled during the closure — tree trimming and the removal of “treelings” for improved visibility; reinforcing the concrete barriers surrounding the park; relocating boulders to restrict unauthorized vehicular access; repairing irrigation; installing new signage; clearing of the adjacent stream; moving sand to reduce accumulation along the wall and reduce overflow onto the highway; and working with residents to “activate” the park following its reopening.

Puuloa Beach Park will be closed from 8 p.m. on Monday, July 3, until 5 a.m. on July 5. The closure is intended to reduce the launch of illegal fireworks during the Independence Day holiday. Crews will install barriers to restrict parking at the beach park during the closure. No events have been permitted at the park from July 3 to 5. Crews will remove the barriers prior to the park reopening on Wednesday morning.

In addition, DPR is updating the public on renovations at Pokai Bay Beach Park. The security fencing has been installed, and maintenance staff will begin work on the bathrooms, including replacing the stall partitions and plumbing fixtures, masonry work on the walls, and painting. The work is estimated for completion at the end of July. Portable toilets will remain outside of the comfort station for public use.
