HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu has announced an in-person enrollment event will be held for its Rental and Utility Relief Program on June 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hauula Community Center, according to a news release. The event is only for new applicants.
Officials advise renters to bring a driver’s license, a state ID card, or other government-issued ID with a picture; copies of signed Social Security cards for their household members; copies of late rent or utility bills; and the most recent tax documents, pay stubs or other income documents.
Applicants can review income limits and eligibility information in the FAQ on the RURP website. Additional in-person enrollment events will be listed on the site as they become available.
Requests for rent and utility assistance are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Approved applications will be paid as long as funds are available. Note that no application is guaranteed funding.
The RURP program initially reopened on June 13 to 2,000 new applicants and closed the same day because of the overwhelming demand for assistance from Oahu renters.
The online application portal has been closed, and the only option to apply is through the in-person enrollment events.
According to the City and County of Honolulu, the Rental and Utility Relief Program launched in April 2021 and has since helped over 16,000 Oahu families and residents who suffered severe financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program temporarily reopened this summer with $25 million in State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds approved by the Honolulu City Council on Feb. 22, 2023.
