HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Transportation updated the time for the June 24 full closure of the H-3 Freeway. The updated work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

With the closure scheduled because of work being done by Hawaiian Electric, HDOT crews will take the opportunity to trim trees, clean the tunnel and repair guardrails, in addition to expansion joint repairs on the Haiku side of the tunnels.

On June 24 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the H-3 Freeway will be closed in both directions for utility work and repairs, according to the Hawaii Department of Transportation.

The on-ramps to H-3 from Kamehameha Highway and Likelike Highway will also be closed. HDOT advises motorists to use alternative routes such as Likelike Highway or Pali Highway.

Hawaiian Electric will work to relocate a pole anchor and adjust power lines above the freeway. At the same time, HDOT crews will conduct expansion joint repairs on the Haiku side of the tunnels.

HDOT will post electronic message boards to notify motorists of the forthcoming closure and police officers will be onsite to assist with road closures. The public is asked to follow traffic control signs and allow for extra travel time.

Note that the schedule may change pending weather conditions.
