PEARL CITY, Hawaii — The Pearl City District Park reopened Thursday, welcoming back swimmers after being closed since 2018, according to a Department of Parks and Recreation news release.

The 25-yard pool and adjacent training pool were closed in November 2018 to repair tiling, lane markers, the pump room, drainage, concrete spalling and plastering. Before repairs were finished, other problems were uncovered, primarily with the pool's electric bonding. This required additional funding and contract work, resulting in the extended closure.

“Looking forward, the City is now inspecting our park pool facilities more holistically before beginning contract work,” the DPR’s news release said. “This in hopes of incorporating all of the needed repairs into one contract to minimize the closure time of these important public facilities.”

The pool is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will be available for the City’s Summer Fun program for keiki.

The DPR said it is still looking for lifeguards for the pool. Those who are interested in applying for the part-time positions may visit DPR’s website for more information, call 808-768-6790, or email dprdistrictV@honolulu.gov.
