HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu is asking Waimanalo residents and the public to share feedback, concerns and ask questions regarding the proposal to rebuild the pavilion at Waimanalo Beach Park at a meeting set for 10:30 a.m. to noon on June 8 at the Waimanalo District Park Gymnasium.
Representatives from the Honolulu Department of Design and Construction, Department of Parks and Recreation and consultant Planning Solutions, Inc. will be on hand to engage attendees, sharing information about the project and providing the opportunity for the community to have their voices heard.
Built in 1959, the original pavilion was removed in 2019 because of structural issues. According to the DDC and DPR, the plan is for the rebuilt pavilion to resemble the original structure since it holds special significance to the Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila and the Waimanalo Summer Fun Program.
Also slated for improvement are nearby structures, including the damaged recreation building and comfort station.
Because the pavilion, recreation building and comfort station are in close proximity to the shoreline, they fall within the Special Management Area and will require additional permitting, besides an environmental assessment of the structures’ current conditions.
Public meetings to discuss the recreation building and comfort station will be scheduled at a later date.
