At the summit of Hawaii Island’s Mauna Kea, which reaches into the sky at 13,500 feet above sea level, it snows a few times each year. 

Right now is one of those times. 

Snow also falls on the summits of Hawaii’s two other towering volcanoes: Hawaii Island’s Mauna Loa and Maui’s Haleakala.
