KAILUA-KONA — The Hawaii Department of Transportation said there was a small passenger plane that crashed shortly after takeoff on Feb. 14 at the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole on Hawaii Island.
No one was seriously hurt, but the pilot had abrasions.
The plane was departing on runway 35 when the pilot aborted the takeoff at 8:51 a.m., according to the DOT.
Five people were on board the plane, including the pilot.
The plane came to rest in the runway safety area, and aircraft rescue personnel and firefighters responded.
It was not clear why the takeoff was aborted.
