HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu is gathering public input regarding a proposed long-term improvement project to the boat ramp at Kailua Beach Park.

What You Need To Know

  • An online survey is available to the public until March 31 to provide feedback on an improvement project to Kailua Beach Park’s boat ramp

  • There will be an Open House at Kailua District Park’s Multi-Purpose Room, 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 22

The public is invited to provide input online via the Kailua Boat Ramp Improvements Project website from now until March 31. It provides the full project details with visuals of the proposed improvements. The survey will also be available at an Open House at Kailua District Park’s Multi-Purpose Room, 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 22.

The city held a series of stakeholder meetings with ramp users, local canoe clubs, community members and the Kailua Neighborhood Board that began in Oct. 2022 to collect comments to develop the project design. Most of the responses focused on replacing the boat ramp to accommodate usage while maintaining its character and supporting parking, according to the news release.

Constructed in 1962, the ramp has been repaired several times and will require additional repairs because of constant wave action and erosion. It was closed in early Feb. 2021 because of its worsening condition and underwent emergency repairs in the summer of the same year.

The boat ramp is the only manmade watercraft launch facility managed and maintained by the City and County of Honolulu.
