HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced that a new Transportation Security Administration checkpoint will open in Terminal 1 at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

There are currently three TSA checkpoints in Terminal 1. One of them is located on the mauka side (mountainside) of the terminal with the other two in close proximity between Lobby 2 and 3.

Come Feb. 18, a new four-lane checkpoint will open at the far makai end (oceanside) of Terminal 1 in Lobby 3.

HDOT has a schedule for the next few weeks prior to the opening:

  • Feb. 12: TSA pre-check will be moved to the Mauka Concourse checkpoint
  • Feb. 13: TSA old checkpoint 1 will be decommissioned after the morning shift
  • Feb. 17: Blessing at 9 a.m. for the new makai checkpoint
  • Feb. 18, 6 a.m.: Makai checkpoint will begin operations with a week-long testing period
  • Feb. 26: Makai checkpoint will begin operations from 4:15 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The old checkpoint will become an exit only for anyone leaving the sanitized area of Terminal 1. Additional restrooms will be constructed.
