MAKAWAO, Hawaii — The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry and Wildlife has reopened the Waihou Spring Forest Reserve on Maui. It was closed yesterday because of hazardous conditions.
The closure was announced in a news release Wednesday and noted that the Kona low storm that passed through the islands earlier this week brought “heavy rains and strong winds,” that damaged the area, making roads and trails impassable.
“Debris from extensive runoff, fallen trees and partially fallen trees pose a safety risk to the public,” the agency said in the release. DOFAW had posted closure signs at access points.
