This year Christmas will fall on Sunday, Dec. 25, so many County offices and services will honor the holiday the following day on Monday, Dec. 26. Other County services will have adjusted schedules on Sunday to observe Christmas. 

Here is a roundup of what's opened and closed for the City and County of Honolulu, County of Maui County and County of Kauai.

City and County of Honolulu

  • TheBus will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday, Dec. 26. For schedule information, visit here.

  • Trash will not be collected on Sunday and Monday.

  • Transfer stations, convenience centers, H-POWER and the Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will be closed on Sunday, but open on Monday.

  • Parks and botanical gardens are closed on Sunday, but open on Monday.

  • The Pali and West Loch Golf Courses will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. for 18-hole play on Sunday; and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for 9-hole play on Sunday. Kahuku Golf Course will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. These golf courses will be closed on Monday. 

  • Ala Wai, Ewa Villages and Ted Makalena Golf Courses will be closed Sunday and Monday.

  • The Honolulu Zoo will be closed on Sunday, but open on Monday.

  • Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

  • The Neal S. Blaisdell Center box office will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

  • The People’s Open Markets will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

  • All satellite city halls and driver licensing centers will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

  • Parking will be restricted in Lanikai over the three-day holiday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • On-street parking will be free, except for the meters on Kalakaua Avenue along Queen Kapiolani Park, metered parking lots and meters on specific Waikiki streets. View the list of Waikiki streets here.

Kauai County

  • County of Kauai offices will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

  • COVID-19 testing at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall and the Hanalei Neighborhood Center will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

  • All neighborhood centers will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

  • The Puhi Metals Recycling Center will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

  • The Koloa HI5 Redemption Center will be closed on Sunday and Monday. Other HI5 redemption centers will be observing normal business days and hours

  • All refuse transfer stations and the Kekaha Landfill will be closed on Sunday, but open on Monday. 

  • The Waimea swimming pool is normally closed on Mondays, so the staff will honor the holiday on Tuesday, Dec. 27. 

  • Trash pickup schedules will not change for the holiday. 

  • The Kauai Bus will be operating on its regular schedule during the holiday.

Maui County

  • County of Maui offices will be closed on Monday.
