LIHUE, Hawaii — A small plane crashed near the Lihue airport on Kauai with two individuals onboard, who were both transported to the Wilcox Medical Center in stable but serious condition, according to a news release from Kauai County.

Shortly before 12:10 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the Lihue Airport after receiving reports of an aircraft crash. 

First responders with the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, American Medical Response and the Kauai Police Department responded to the incident. 

Kauai County urges the public to avoid the area. 

The Federal Aviation Administration will lead the investigation.
