Carmen “Hulu” Lindsey retained her position as chair of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees in a unanimous vote on Monday.

“I am beyond honored to see the faith and confidence that my fellow trustees have placed in me, and I promise them that I will continue to work as hard as I have since first accepting this leadership role two years ago,” Lindsey said. “We will continue to share our message of working together in a spirit of unity and lokahi and we will strive to do our very best in bettering the lives of the Native Hawaiian community because that is what our people truly deserve.”

Lindsey formerly served as properties administrator for Maui Land & Pineapple Co. and administrator for the County of Maui’s Land Use and Codes Division and has owned a real estate company for more than 40 years.

In its first meeting since the Nov. 8 General Election, the board also elected Hawaii Island Trustee Mililani Trask as vice chair and selected the leadership for its two standing committees.

The Committee on Resource Management will be led by chair John Waihee IV and vice chair Luana Alapa. The Committee on Beneficiary and Advocacy will be chaired by Kalei Akaka.

The six trustees elected or reelected in the General Election—Lindsey, Trask Waihee, Akaka, Brickwood Galuteria and Keoni Souza—were previously administered the oath of office at investiture ceremonies held at Kawaiahao Church on Dec. 8.
