LIHUE, Hawaii — The County of Kauai and Hawaii State Department of Health Kauai District Health Office reminds residents about the upcoming distribution of free COVID-19 home test kits at neighborhood centers, Oct. 19 to 21.

There are approximately 6,000 test kits available for distribution on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to five tests per individual/household.

“Mahalo to our partners with the Kauai District Health Office, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Kauai Emergency Management Agency for making these free tests available to our community,” said Mayor Derek Kawakami. “Home test kits are one of the many tools at our disposal to reduce the risk of spreading COVID.”

The distribution sites and times are as follows. Note that the ending times will vary depending on how long supplies last.

Wed., Oct. 19

  • Hanalei Neighborhood Center, 9 a.m.-noon
  • Kilauea Neighborhood Center, 1-4 p.m.

Thurs., Oct. 20

  • Waimea Neighborhood Center, 9 a.m.-noon
  • Hanapepe Neighborhood Center, 1-4 p.m.

Fri., Oct. 21

  • Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex - 9 a.m.-noon
  • Lihue Neighborhood Center - 1-4 p.m.

The expiration date of the COVID tests is listed as Nov. 2022. However, the FDA has extended the shelf-life to seven months, resulting in an expiration date of June 2023.
