The Kauai Humane Society is opening a low-cost veterinary care center on Tuesday.
The Community Care Center will offer Kauai pet owners low-cost medical services, such as diagnosing ailments, blood work, nail trimming, micro-chipping, flea and tick prevention, and more, according to a news release.
The center will be opened Tuesday for walk-ins between 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m, and will treat cats and dogs. It is sponsored by PetSmart Charities.
“We have long been looking for an opportunity to assist our community medically and we’re finally able to provide this opportunity through PetSmart Charities to help those needing low-cost services,” said Executive Director Nicole Schafer Crane in the news release. “We’re always looking for opportunities to remove any hurdles to pet ownership and we pride ourselves on being a community resource. This is another step we are excited to take to further our mission.”
The Kauai Humane Society already provided low-cost vaccine appointments, as well as low-cost spay and neuter appointments, which will continue in partnership with the new center.
The center aims to keep humans and their dogs or cats together. The second most common reason pets are surrendered is because of landlord or housing issues. The Care Center offers a landlord health exam, which is intended to show that a pet is in good health and being well taken care of in hopes of reducing tenant issues.
“This is a measure to assist with decreasing the need of surrendering animals, ensuring your pets have long, healthy lives while in the home, and assisting with resource opportunities to promote responsible pet ownership,” Crane said.
