The Hawaii State Capitol remained closed to the public on Monday due to a power outage that began over the weekend.

The cause of the outage has not yet been determined. Power to some offices has been restored, but the building will remain closed until the issue is wholly resolved.

Senate President Ronald Kouchi and House Speaker Scott Saiki issued a statement on Monday that read, “During this closure, all legislative offices will remain operational, and staff will work remotely. Senate and House leadership is working closely with the Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS) to determine the exact cause of the outage and will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.”
