HONOLULU — Honolulu Hale will be lit in orange, blue and white from Sunday to Saturday in commemoration of National Emergency Medical Services Week.
“I continue to be impressed with our city Emergency Medical Services heroes for their tireless service and dedication to serving the public,” Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi said in a statement released on Friday. “Their commitment is nothing short of truly remarkable. I hope you will join us in celebrating the 47th Annual National Emergency Medical Services Week, a week that acknowledges the dedicated, determined, courageous individuals who respond to more than 100,000 emergency medical calls on Oahu annually.”
The theme for this year’s celebration is “EMS: Rising to the Challenge,” which reminds the public that first responders are faced with new challenges every day yet rise above them to respond and administer emergency medicine to those in need.
Blangiardi will also present a proclamation to Dr. Jim Ireland, director of the Honolulu Department of Emergency Services, and formally declare May 15-21, 2022, EMS week in the City and County of Honolulu.
“The city’s paramedics and emergency medical technicians are the front line of emergency medicine in our communities,” Ireland said. “These men and women are trained to provide life-saving medical treatment and they are so deserving of this recognition.”
