With no end in sight for the writers' and actors' strikes, NBC is revamping its fall schedule and bringing the Hawaii-based procedural, "Magnum P.I.," back early.
The final 10 episodes of the show will return on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 10 p.m. They had been slated to air mid-season in 2024.
Faced with stacking its schedule with non-scripted fare amid the ongoing strikes, NBC decided to bring the show's final season forward.
The network delighted fans when it resurrected the series with a 20-episode order after CBS canceled the show, which had run for four seasons.
However, the uncertainty over the ongoing strikes and with the cast's options up for renewal, NBC surprisingly canceled the detective drama in June.
The final 10 episodes to air had already been filmed, which means the series may conclude on a cliffhanger — or without a final resolution.
The show enjoys a very passionate fan base, who have been feverishly tweeting, begging the Peacock Network to reconsider the cancellation and bring back the series one last time for a final sixth season.
They even pooled resources for billboards in Times Square and on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, urging the series be saved.
Dr. Tori Jones, a fan in London who's been tweeting and calling NBC relentlessly, described the cancellation as "soul-destroying, very frustrating."
"I know a lot of the fans are incredibly angry at how NBC have treated the cast, crew, writers, and viewers," she said in an email to Spectrum News.
"This show means a lot to people, and the fans are more than willing to contribute financially, as well as contributing their time," she added. "In a TV schedule crammed full of gritty, depressing, grim, first responder shows and crime dramas, 'Magnum P.I.' is a rare ray of sunshine, it's warm and joyful; there's nothing else like it on TV. At its core, it's a show about friendship, loyalty, and facing adversity together — and that's exactly what the fan base intends to do again. For as long as it takes."
