WAIPIO, Hawaii — The city’s Department of Parks and Recreation announced the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex will close for the month of June to undergo maintenance.

Work includes aerating, verticutting, weed control, fertilizing, soil cultivation, irrigation repairs, sidewalk maintenance, renovating traffic islands, power washing and additional water feature inspections and repairs.

As the first and only soccer facility of its kind in the state with 21 regulation fields that include a 5,000-seat stadium with lights for evening events, the complex serves 30,000 soccer players on Oahu. Park staff have been working with regular park users and permittees on alternate locations during the closure. The maintenance schedule depends on weather and may require more time if needed.
