The Kauai Senior Softball League is back on the fields. 

The Garden Island’s 14 teams kicked off the 2022 season-opening games on Saturday at Isenberg Park and Kaumakani Field following COVID-19 protocols. For the second year, traditional opening ceremonies that honor players who have passed on were not conducted.

Kauai may be the smallest in size compared to Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island, but its senior softball league is one of the state’s largest and features kupuna ranging in age from 60 to 75-plus. 

Isenberg Park saw the Barteks win against Aloha Kia Lihue A’s, 12-2; the Keonimana Gents beat out Kawaihau, 18-5; East Kauai Legends took the win over Da Kruzers, 20-12; and Imi‘Ola won over the Hanamaulu Hillsiders, an astounding 22-0.

Over at Kaumakani Field, the Rookies beat out Kuku’s Aces, 19-4; the Bushwackas scored over Kauai Sons, 22-15; and Solid Steel narrowly took the win over West Kauai, 20-19.

All 14 teams will play seven games every Saturday up until July 2 at fields located in Lihue, Hanamaulu, Hanapepe, Kaumakani, Eleele, Wailua Houselots, Puhi and Kapaa. The season ends with the state finals in August.
