MAUI — Maui County, the County of Environmental Protection and Sustainability Division encourages residents to recycle their Christmas trees and is making it easy with a variety of drop-off locations around the Valley Isle. Be sure to completely remove all decorations — including tinsel — before dropping off your tree. Most services are free unless otherwise indicated.

  • Dumping them in gulches or at community centers, recycling centers, parking lots and roadsides is illegal

Central Maui and Upcountry: Maui EKO at the Central Maui Landfill is open 6 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

East Maui, Molokai and Lanai: Hana, Lanai and Molokai landfills are open 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Kihei: Returning green waste to the Earth, Kihei Compost will accept trees for $5 each. The money raised supports school gardening with Grow Some Good. Open 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

West Maui: Olowalu Transfer Station is open 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

Curbside pickup by the Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui: Residents in Paia, Haiku, Pukalani, Makawao and Kula can participate in the Rotary Club’s roadside collection service 8 a.m.-noon on Jan. 2. A $10-$20 donation per tree will go toward supporting local Rotary projects. Schedule a pickup by calling 808-878-2177 by Dec. 30.
