Maui introduced a new effort to support local businesses and nonprofits, and it includes a list of kamaʻaina discounts.
Maui Nui First will replace the Kamaʻaina First campaign, which was started in June 2020, and featured discounts to support locals as the spread of COVID-19 effectively shut down tourism, according to a news release.
The new effort includes a website featuring stores, salons, hotels, rental cars, restaurants, food trucks, entertainment, farmers, animal services, real estate and more that are all owned by Maui residents.
It also has a special section with kamaʻaina discounts to support locals buying from local stores.
The website also features stories about the companies, including Maui Potato Chip Company, Kula Crafts & Flowers, IBS School of Cosmetology and Massage and jewelry-makers Hana Maui Creations. Plus, there’s a page for events listings.
For locals looking to volunteer, the website features opportunities to give back to the Maui community.
Businesses and organizations on Maui may sign up to be listed on the Maui Nui First website.
