FORT WORTH, Texas — The mother of a Texas teenager who used an "affluenza" defense in a fatal drunken-driving wreck is back in jail, accused of taking drugs in violation of the conditions of her release on bond.

Tonya Couch was booked into a Fort Worth jail on Thursday. The arrest warrant issued Wednesday alleges Couch tested positive for amphetamine or methamphetamine.

She had her bond revoked once before for failing a urinalysis in March. She had been released for just two weeks when she failed another urinalysis.

In 2013, her son Ethan Couch, who was 16 at the time, killed four people while drunken driving. His attorney convinced a judge that his wealthy upbringing caused him not to know right from wrong; therefore giving him the name “affluenza teen.”

Couch was charged with money laundering and hindering apprehension. She and Ethan skipped the country for Mexico in 2015 after a video surfaced online appearing to show her son at a party where alcohol was being served.

Ethan was released on probation last March.

Many believe the justice system has been too lenient with Couch.
