HENRIETTA, N.Y. -- Henrietta Town Supervisor Steve Schultz confirms IKEA looked at Marketplace Mall as a possible location for a new store. He said location scouts were in the area in December.

With several locations within the mall’s footprint that are vacant and could be redeveloped into an IKEA, including the former Macy’s site and a parcel on the other side of the property, Schultz added that the scouts also looked at the Getinge property on East Henrietta Road, adjacent to 390 and Jefferson Road.

IKEA stores are usually 300,000 square feet in size, making Henrietta and its close proximity to major roadways an ideal location for the retailer to consider.

The Swedish furniture and home goods store has 392 stores in 48 countries, including 46 stores in the United States with plans to open more.

A spokesperson for IKEA says that as the company "endeavor(s) to expand our presence here in the United States, we will continue to evaluate opportunities as they arise. However, IKEA has not announced any plans for a store in the Rochester area."
