CHURCHVILLE, N.Y. -- The death of a 10-year-old boy is being investigated after deputies say he was left home alone with his younger brother in Churchville.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to a home on Fitch Street around 9:30 p.m. Monday after the 6-year-old boy went to his neighbor's house and asked for help for his brother, J'Vieon Grayson-Sutton.

The neighbor found the boy unconscious and started CPR until paramedics arrived. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where he died Tuesday morning.

"The mother went to work around 4 p.m., leaving the two children with her boyfriend, who is the father of the younger child,” said Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn. “They were apparently going to go on a boating trip, but there was a problem with the boat, so the father left the two boys alone to run errands."

Deputies say that when they arrived, they found a white powder at the scene, but it didn't test positive for any known drugs.

The Churchville-Chili School District that J'Vieon attended says counselors and members of their Trauma, Illness and Grief team will be available to students and staff throughout the day on Wednesday.

Investigators say charges are pending.
