Fire lines held again Wednesday as crews continued to battle the wildfire burning in the Hudson Valley, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation, and State Park Police say the fire is 41% contained.

What DEC officials termed "burnout operations" led to more visible smoke, they said, which was to continue overnight into this morning, but they added that "the fire is doing what was expected."

State Police and National Guard helicopters dropped 166 buckets of water on the fire Wednesday, with more volunteer fire companies arriving from around the state to aid efforts. State Park Police say the plan for Thursday is to have four helicopters in the air, with Blackhawk helicopters dropping 600 gallons per bucket on the fire, and Chinook helicopters dropping 2,000 gallons per bucket.

The statewide burn ban is still in effect.
