Democratic incumbent Jamie Romeo declared victory over Republican Peter Vazquez on Election Day for her second term as Monroe County clerk.

Romeo won her first term in 2020 after County Executive Adam Bello was voted into his position.

She says her work in office has helped update DMV services and has improved pistol permit operations by having applicants schedule appointments at the office.

“It's a confirmation of the work that you're doing, the work that your team is doing, that the community supports," said Romeo. "And that's I know, for the county clerk's office, it's a very unique office, but we're trying to make our dent in our community, and we're really excited to continue that work for the next four years, to really make everyone's lives a little bit better.”

“It is what it is," said Republican candidate Jim VanBrederode. "I'm really comfortable with everything that we did. I'm going to wake up in the morning and say there was nothing more that I could have done. I'm glad that the will of the people is being met. I'm assuming and hoping that it was an honest election, that there obviously wasn't an issue with election integrity. But with that being said, I'm happy. I'm OK.”

Romeo says she’s looking forward to the digitization of records management project to bring the history of Monroe County to life.
