ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The holidays are here and there's no better way to get in the spirit of the season than at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester. The historical home is filled with sweet creations that are cheerful, colorful and creative.

What You Need To Know

  • Bid on your favorite gingerbread creations, wreaths and tabletop trees online

  • Families, bakers, businesses and community organizations made the gingerbread houses

  • You can view the displays during regular museum hours

More than 50 handmade gingerbread houses are on display throughout the museum.

"We are just thrilled that this has been now in our 29th year," said Eliza Benington, senior director of marketing and engagement at the museum. "It is such a tradition in Rochester for people to come and bring their families and friends, because every year it's completely different."

You never know what people will come up with, from the themes to the edible materials. Each one is designed and put together by a family, a business or community organization. You’ll see gumdrop sidewalks, shredded wheat roof shingles and a pretzel cabin.

"Some people every year they do something, sometimes we get new people participating," said Benington. "There is so much to see, and then the whole mansion is decorated for the holidays as well."

It's also holiday splendor that you can take home. All of the gingerbread houses are up for bid at the George Eastman Museum Sweet Creations online auction. Bidding ends Jan. 5. Holiday wreaths and tabletop trees are also up for auction.
