Combination lock bags could keep kids safe while they’re at home. Locked bags are like a gun lock for drugs.

“Up to age 18, there's no amount of cannabis that is safe for the developing brain,” said Travis Bulluck, who works with the Oswego County Prevention Coalition.

The coalition is offering lock bags to the public for free. The bags have the poison control number on the front and statistics inside.

According to the Upstate New York Poison Center, there were 700 cases of cannabis poisoning last year, and 449 of those were for edibles.

“Edibles especially, they look inviting. They look like candies," Bulluck said. "So, you want to make sure you put them in those bags, you lock those bags up, keep them stored, away and out of sight of children. And that's one of the best ways to prevent that from happening to you."

So far, OCPC has handed out hundreds of bags, but they say they have lots more they want to share with the community.

“We've seen recent incidences, especially with edibles, of children just not really feeling well. And it comes to find out that they saw something on the bus or, they got in their parents' candy or something like that. And they ended up in the emergency room,” said Bulluck.
