FAIRPORT, N.Y. — There’s a month-long family-friendly scavenger hunt happening in the village of Fairport.
The third annual Fairport Scavenger Hunt will not only have you out looking for clues wrapped around gorgeous village trees, but you'll also get a chance to learn about some historic homes located throughout the village.
What You Need To Know
- The Village of Fairport Tree Board and Historic Preservation Commission invite you to participate in the third annual Tree and Historic House Scavenger Hunt through June 18
- This year’s scavenger hunt will search for eight trees and 10 historic houses each marked with a sign or green ribbon
David Steitz loves the village of Fairport. He lives here. He’s also a volunteer on the Fairport Historic Preservation Commission.
“I just love the community feel. I love the walkability,” said Steitz. “It is wonderful to just get our residents out and sort of learn again about our village and bring in some visitors to the village and see what people have been doing to their homes and how they take care of them. It’s really to show them off."
There are 10 historic homes and eight trees on the scavenger hunt. Each is marked with a green ribbon and information card. Find the clues, solve the puzzle and enter to win.
Bill Maier is a member of the Fairport Village Tree board. He’s hoping the scavenger hunt gets more people out and enjoying the walk around the village to see the character and charm that is Fairport.
“The village cares for 3,000 different village trees. It is kind of showing off all the different players who are caring for the village tree canopy. It’s not just the street trees, but the trees in private yards. They are very important to the overall urban forest that we have here,” said Maier.
To play the scavenger hunt, just pick up a map in front of the Potter House or the Perinton Historical Society Museum. You can also print out a map by visiting the village of Fairport website.
The Tree and Historic House Scavenger Hunt continues through June 18. Submit your completed puzzle for a chance to win a tree planted in your name or a family membership to the Perinton Historical Society.
Collect the clues, solve the puzzle and submit your answer via email or drop off at the Village Hall or Perinton Historical Museum.
