Dean Eveleigh of Henrietta spent his morning picking strawberries at Gro-Moore Farms in Rush.

"It's like out of a magazine" Eveleigh said of one of the strawberries he picked.

He may not come out here often but it's something he always enjoys

"It's been a couple years since I've been out here and I got their email that reminded me on what they do here,” said Eveleigh. “So I thought I would come out and see what I could find there are so many out here to choose from. It's a great place to be."

Brenda Moore, the owner of Gro-Moore Farms, says this is their 44th season of inviting the community to pick their own strawberries.

"We plant the strawberry plants and we sit on the sutter and do it and plant has to be pushed into the ground by hand because they have really long roots,” said Moore.

She also explains that the strawberries are planted at the end of April and early May, but aren't available until the following year.

On days like this, Moore feels like the hard work they put in makes it all worth it.

"This is wonderful,” said Moore. “It's a perfect day. The weather is perfect. People are just coming out and having fun, looking for something. A lot of them are picking because they are having a party later. They are having strawberry shortcake."

Eveleigh filled up his container with strawberries and called it a day.

"I just like being out in the open, especially on a day like this,” said Eveleigh. “And there is something about harvesting it yourself that seems to make it tastes better when you start to enjoy them and of course the price is better than if you buy them already picked."

Gro-Moore Farms is open for strawberry picking weekdays 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The season will last for the next three to four weeks.
