ROCHESTER, N.Y. — People who live in the neighborhood where the alleged brutality against Christopher Pate by Rochester Police officers took place are talking and trying to learn more.

One witness said she doesn’t believe race is a factor.

"Me personally, I don’t think it’s a race thing, because there was an African American police officer out there as well,” said Daze Smith. “I don’t think it’s a race thing, it could have been.  The guy, police officer, could have been having a bad day that day. I just feel like the police, they have a lot of anger in them and they take it out on other people."

Smith lives across the street from where it all happened.

She witnessed part of what went down with Pate and the two officers.

Smith says she saw the police put a suspect into the squad car.

She and other neighbors say the police and community here generally don't have problems and she has never seen any incidents of police brutality.
