WATERLOO, N.Y. — A suspect has been taken into custody following a triple shooting in Ontario County that killed a man, a woman, and injured another woman.

The suspect has been identified as Emerson Tohafjian, 48.

State Police say a cab driver dropped off two women at a home and then immediately called 911 when he saw a man jump out of the bushes and follow the pair inside.

Upon their arrival, police found a deceased male and a deceased female. Another woman was also shot — she was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"We have dozens of police officers from the Waterloo, Seneca County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police are working around the clock trying to piece together the events of what happened last night,” said New York State Trooper Mark O'Donnell.

The women had been at a bar right beforehand and an employee there said he's familiar with both women.

He says Tohafjian had an on and off relationship with one of the victims. He also said they had lived together at one point.

In June, Emerson Tohafjian was identified in connection with two other violent incidents, the most recent being an alleged sexual assault on June 19th that led him to be charged with rape.

Just a few weeks earlier, an order of protection was filed against him after he allegedly choked a person in Varick.

State police say they took the suspect into custody at the Cheerful Valley Campground in the Ontario County town of Phelps. Police say after an hour of attempts by crisis negotiators, the man surrendered. The suspect had self-inflicted cuts to the arm and neck and was transported to Strong.

Ronald Anderson Jr., owner of All-Way-Taxi in Waterloo, says one of his drivers picked up the two women from a bar and dropped them off at their house on North Virginia Street. He says a man then jumped out of the bushes, and followed them into the house. At that time, the driver called 911 immediately. Anderson Jr. says that he knew the shooter and he's been banned from their taxi company for previously beating his girlfriend in a cab.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
