ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Thousands of students in the Rochester City School district and their parents are changing their plans for Friday.

Because of freezing temperatures and heavy snow, all city schools will be closed and all school-related activities on Saturday have been cancelled.

The district says it is attempting to be more proactive this year by informing families a day ahead.

For families seeking assistance, such as additional support or hot meals, there are options provided by the school district.

"We wanted to make sure that we have some sites that are warming sites for people if need be and where they can get a hot meal," said Carlos Garcia, an RCSD Spokesman.

Meals will be served from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the David Gantt Center and centers located at Schools 3, 12, 17, 19, and 33. A list of participating school locations is available at www.rcsdk12.org.
