While Charlie Tan remains in jail waiting for his trial on weapons charges, his lawyers have filed a motion for the government to reveal its informants.

Tan was arrested in October as he tried to cross the border from Canada into the US near Buffalo.

He was arrested on a federal indictment and charged with receiving a firearm with intent to commit an offense as well as making a false statement during its purchase.  It's in relation to the 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition prosecutors say were used in the murder of his father, Jim Tan in February of 2015.

The murder charge against Tan was dismissed by a trial judge.

This week, Tan's lawyers filed a motion in federal court for the government to disclose information about its informants to be used during Tan's upcoming trial.

In the paperwork, Tan's lawyers say they believe the government plans to use Whitney Knickerbocker as an informant or co-defendant.  The documents go on to say Knickerbocker is believed to be the actual purchaser of the shotgun in question.

The motion requests for additional information including whether rewards have been provided to the informants by the government and whether immunity or leniency has been promised for their cooperation.
