GREECE, N.Y. -- Jill Skivington Jackett was well known throughout the Rochester running community and was a former winner of the Rochester marathon. She was killed Thursday in a hit and run in Rochester.
Saturday morning, her running group got together in her memory. The emotional group gathered early to run three miles for Jackett, the person that was more than just a runner and teacher; but a beloved friend.
They met in the Wegman's plaza in Greece to honor the avid runners life. Her running group created a running route including Olympia High school to represent her love for teaching. The group has named this route "Jill's Run." The route, including longer and shorter distances is at the bottom of the story.
Jackett was a teacher at Wheatland Chilli High School where she coached cross country.
"She would always try to keep up with you or run past you or do whatever, but she was always interested in how you were doing in your races and your training," said Russ Herman, friend. "She was very selfless. We knew her as a runner others knew her as a teacher. In her entire life she was excelling."
Police continue to look for the driver of the vehicle who hit Jackett. Anyone with information should call police.
