ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Both the Rochester and Greece police departments are investigating an incident involving the report of a missing child from a Thanksgiving party in the early hours of Friday morning.
Greece police say the investigation involves a member of the Rochester police department.
Our crew was there Friday morning as several agencies searched for a missing 3-year-old in the area of Sherri Ann Lane in Greece.
At that time, Rochester police told Spectrum News there was a miscommunication with family members and the child was taken home by a family member earlier in the night.
Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan tells us the toddler is the son of Rochester Police Investigator Jeff McEntee. He says when police arrived around 2 a.m., the adults in the home were intoxicated and made it hard to investigate the situation. Police requested additional resources and searched the area for about two hours before the child was found at home in bed.
Phelan says at some point, someone had taken the little boy home, which he says is about 4 miles from where the party was taking place.
He says McEntee was uncooperative at the scene and didn't admit to driving the toddler home. Phelan adds that McEntee refused further interviews, and that no one knew who drove the child home.
Greece Police have filed a report with Child Protective Services to investigate why the child was left home alone.
Phelan said officers didn't have any probable cause to make any arrests at the party.
Rochester Police Public Information Officer Jackie Shuman responded to the incident saying, "RPD has already referred this matter to our Professional Standards Section on Friday morning. RPD will conduct a full internal investigation to determine if any disciplinary action is warranted."
