ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Rochester Police Department officials say an RPD investigator Scott Ferro fired a shotgun at an individual on Rustic Street around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the Greater Rochester Area Narcotics Enforcement Team was in the process of executing a search warrant when 56-year-old Robert Herrington pointed a shotgun at a team member.

Officials say the Ferro, a 19-year department veteran, responded by firing a shotgun three times at Herrington.

Police say it appears no one was injured by any gunfire during the incident, though Herrington did sustain a scratch on the forehead.

"We always operate in the same fashion. We always conduct ourselves in the same fashion, whether we have a tragedy like on the weekend where one of our officers was shot, or not, we always operate in the same. We're always careful, we're always safety minded," said Rochester Police Commander Joseph Morabito.

Herrington has been charged with menacing of a police officer and possession of untaxed cigarettes for sale.

As with all officer-involved shootings, the RPD is conducting both a criminal and an internal investigation, and Ferro will be assigned administrative duties until the investigation is complete.

RPD officials say because Ferro was assisgned the Special Investigations Sections, a police unit which is not assigned body cameras, there is no footage of the shooting. RPD officials add that there were three officers with body cameras at the scene, but that they were outside the home when the shooting took place inside, and that there is no footage.

This is the second officer-involved shooting that happened on the north east side of the city within a matter of days.

Saturday night, RPD officer Jeremy Nash was shot in the face while on duty on North Street. He was released from the hospital on Monday.
