ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The grandfather of the little girl who died as the result of child abuse continues his fight against the Monroe County Child Protective Services.

John Geer says Brook Stagles could still be alive if CPS had done its job.

Geer put up a billboard in Henrietta with a picture of his grand daughter that reads, "Don't let children die from child abuse like Brook Stagles."

It's is the first local board to go up. The first was unveiled in Chicago last month. So far 16 have gone up and another nine will debut next week.

Geer has says calls to CPS about incidents of abuse involving his grand daughter went unanswered. He says changes need to be made.

"I think the longer the counties ignore it or don't adapt to the changing times and the population is growing, the more calls are growing, they're not actually adjusting their numbers to meet what's going on today," Geer said.

Thursday, he met with Monroe county Legislature President Anthony Daniele about the situation.

Daniele issued a statement that said in part, "I assured him that fully-funding CPS positions was a priority in the County Executive's 2017 Budget and I was happy to support that budget along with the practice of over-hiring CPS workers to minimize vacancies in the department. These proactive measures demonstrate this commitment to protecting children in our community."

The girl's father, Michael Stagles is charged with criminal negligent homicide and his girlfriend, Erica Bell, faces second degree murder charges.

Their trials are scheduled for March.
